Siler City, NC - Jordan-Matthews High School sponsored a Technology Showcase evening on Tuesday, April 25, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Set up at stations in classrooms and the media center, students and teachers used iBook laptop computers in displaying projects and allowed attendees to participate in simulated classroom settings. With a wide range of subject areas represented, visitors were able to experience a twenty-first century learning environment.

“We want folks to see how we are using technology in the school and that technology has been a good investment,” said Bunnie Brewer, technology facilitator at Jordan-Matthews.

Topics included blogging, using lap probes and graphical analysis software, United Streaming, SmartBoards, InterWrite School Pads, CPS quiz system (clickers), PowerPoint presentations, iMovie/iDVD projects (commercials), Internet activities, Geocaching, typography, and onsite business card making.

Chatham County Schools embarked on a computer initiative that put Apple iBook laptops into the hands of all high school teachers last fall and gave all students in grades nine through twelve access to multiple carts with classroom sets of iBooks. The Technology Showcase highlighted the many ways Jordan-Matthews has been utilizing the technology.
