[Apr. 24, 2009] The third grade students Nichole Conrad and Katie Palmer at Bonlee School have been studying other countries around the world. They have been learning about foods, clothing, and traditions found in countries such as Japan and Mexico.
 
North Chatham student recognized in State Science FairNorth Chatham student recognized in State Science Fair
[Apr. 24, 2009] Four students from Chatham County Schools participated in the State Science Fair held Saturday, March 28, at Meredith College in Raleigh. Nolan Brown, a sixth grade student of Karen Kaczman at North Chatham School, received special awards for his research on oil spills.

[Apr. 11, 2009] Mike Granger worked carefully with tape and mastic, sealing off air leaks in an older Pittsboro building. Others working alongside him were checking for air leaks, and sealing ducts, wall tops and an attic crawl space. All are students in Central Carolina Community College’s “Weatherization and Energy Efficiency” class, part of the college’s Continuing Education Department’s Green Building/Renewable Energy program at its Chatham County Campus.
 
Perry Harrison School competes in regional Battle of the Books
[Apr. 3, 2009] The Perry Harrison School Battle of the Books Team traveled to Randolph Community College on Friday, March 27, for the Region 5 North Carolina competition. This is the second year for the team but their first time to compete at the regional level.
 
Tri-M comes to Northwood
[Apr. 3, 2009] The Tri-M Music Honor Society, the honor society for secondary school music students announces the chartering of a new chapter at Northwood High School in Pittsboro, NC under the leadership of Marilyn Shugart, Vocal Arts and Guitar Teacher, Eugene Cottrell, Band Director, and with the support of the Northwood High School Arts Education Foundation
 
Northwood inducts 24 new Tri-M music honor society members
[Apr. 3, 2009] On Tuesday, March 31, the following students were inducted into the new NHS Chapter of Tri-M, the international music honor society.
 
Harrison student named North Carolina Geographic Bee semifinalist
[Apr. 2, 2009] Evan Darden, a seventh grader at Perry Harrison School, is one of the semifinalists eligible to compete in the 2009 North Carolina Geographic Bee, sponsored by Google and Plum Creek. Bees were held in schools with fourth through eighth grade students throughout the state to determine each school’s Geographic Bee winner.
 
Harrison envirothon teams thrive at regional competition
[Apr. 2, 2009] Three Envirothon teams competed in the regional competition Wednesday, March 25, at Elon University. All three teams placed in the top seven, qualifying them to compete at the state competition. The Indestructibles (Alex Green, Moli Eddins, Forrest Glosson, and Brandon Glosson) placed fourth. The Wolverines (Alex Galin, Clay Berg, Ryan Millis, and Jack Dalton) placed third. And, the Sleeping Beavers (Dionna Bright, Ellen Turner, Christian Owens, and Clark Streets) placed second.
 
Railhawks players visit Perry Harrison School
[Apr. 2, 2009] Middle school students at Perry Harrison School were treated to a visit by two Carolina Railhawks players on Monday afternoon, March 23. The team is part of the United Soccer Leagues (USL) and is based in Cary. USL-1 is the highest level of professional soccer in the U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean.
 
Project graduation committees seek community involvement
[Apr. 1, 2009] Since 1990, Project Graduation has been an annual event for graduating seniors from all three high schools. Co-sponsored by the Chatham Community for Alcohol and Drug Free Youth and Chatham County Schools, seniors and their guests enjoy a fun-filled evening with music, games and plenty of food in a safe graduation celebration that is alcohol and drug free. Area meteorologist visits Virginia Cross Elementary
[Apr. 1, 2009] Lee Ringer a meteorologist for News 14 Carolina in Raleigh visited fifth grade science classes at Virginia Cross Elementary on Wednesday, March 25. The visit was arranged as a culminating activity to the students finishing the unit about weather.
 
Superintendent Logan holds Community Conversation on Education
[Apr. 1, 2009] Superintendent Robert Logan held a Community Conversation on Education at Jordan-Matthews High School on Tuesday evening, March 25, to discuss various aspects of the school district and to invite the community to have input in the updating of the district’s strategic plan.

Shugart takes up baton for Northwood's spring musical
[Mar. 26, 2009] Unlike the characters they portray, the Northwood actors traveling Into the Woods are not required to make the trip completely on their own. One of the members of the production team along for the journey is Music Director Marilyn Shugart. She is there not only to keep them on pitch but to teach them the complicated musical path they must travel in this complex work by Stephen Sondheim. By Gina Harrison

Chatham schools to have half day on Good Friday
[Mar. 26, 2009] The Board of Education voted to amend the current school year calendar (2008-09) to accommodate a missed school day on March 2 when the district had to close due to inclement weather. The Board voted to make Good Friday, April 10, a student day. The Board voted to make this a half day of school.
