Administrative changes in Chatham County schools[Aug. 26, 2009] Chatham County Schools has had several recent administrative changes in various areas of the school district. Some individuals are new to the district while others are employees who have moved into new roles.
Help name Chatham County's new middle school[Aug. 25, 2009] The Chatham County Board of Education and a Name the School Committee is soliciting suggestions from staff, students, and the community as it goes through the process of naming the new middle school currently being built in northeastern Chatham County.
Chatham County's Board of Education July emergency meeting approved grant application[Aug. 22, 2009] On July 30, the Chatham County Board of Education called an emergency meeting via telephone conference call. Chairwoman Russell announced that the purpose of the meeting was to approve a resolution supporting applying for American Recovery Reinvestment Act funds (federal stimulus funds). The grant application had a deadline of being postmarked by Friday, July 31.
Chatham County Board of Education calls emergency meeting for resolution approval[Aug. 22, 2009] The Chatham County Board of Education has called an emergency meeting for Monday, August 24, at 2:00 p.m. via telephone conference call. The meeting purpose is to consider approving a resolution that must accompany a grant application district officials are completing for additional federal stimulus funds in the area of capital improvement.
Chatham County schools resume Tuesday[Aug. 19, 2009] More than 7,700 students and 1,200 employees in Chatham County Schools will usher in a new school year when classes resume on Tuesday. But before then, there will be optional teacher work days today, Friday and Monday. Thursday is a required work day during which employees will attend a district convocation at Chatham Central High School in the morning and have faculty meetings at their individual schools in the afternoon.
Chatham schools avoid painful budget cuts[Aug. 18, 2009] Chatham County School Superintendent Robert Logan told the Board of Commissioners on August 17 at the board's work session that their budget support during tough economic times means that the school system is in much better shape for the coming school year than many others.
Central Carolina Community College expanding in Chatham County[Aug. 3, 2009] Central Carolina Community College will see major expansion in Chatham County as construction for three new buildings gets under way this summer. At its July 29 meeting at the college’s Lee County Campus, the board of trustees accepted the low bid of Monteith Construction Corp., of Monroe, to build the college’s new Siler City Center. The base bid was $3.3 million and total contract amount, $4.16 million. The project, designed by Hobbs Architects, of Pittsboro, will be paid for by Chatham County.
Chatham County high schools send representatives to Technology Institute[Jul. 30, 2009] Fifteen high school teachers and administrators from Chatham County Schools attended a Raleigh institute July 8-10 in preparation for all high school students being issued laptops this fall. The host site was The William & Ida Friday Institute for Educational Innovation on the North Carolina State University campus.
Twenty Chatham teachers earn Masters degrees from UNC Greensboro[Jul. 16, 2009] Twenty teachers from various schools in Chatham County Schools graduated this spring from UNC Greensboro as part of a Masters degree cohort in the area of literacy. Dr. Tina Hester, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources, noted the value of professional alliances formed over the course of the program, particularly when there are multiple teachers from the same school pursuing a graduate degree.
