Bennett third graders prepare for testing

[Jun. 13, 2008] Project Graduation, the all night alcohol, tobacco and other drug free event co-sponsored by Chatham County Schools and the Chatham Community for Alcohol and Drug Free Youth, is kicking off tonight. The event, in its 19th year, will begin at 11:00 PM and end at 6:00 AM on Saturday, June 14.

[Apr. 15, 2008] The Chatham County Board of Education has selected Robert Logan, 53, as its unanimous choice to be the next Superintendent of Chatham County Schools. Logan will begin working in the district on May 15.

[Apr. 10, 2008] Since 1990, Project Graduation has been an annual event for graduating seniors from all three high schools. Seniors and their guests enjoy a fun-filled evening with music, games and plenty of food in a safe graduation celebration that is alcohol and drug free. This year, several "carnival games" have been added to create a more festive and teenager friendly atmosphere.

[Apr. 4, 2008] In February, State Auditor Leslie Merritt released an audit of the Department of Public Instruction’s (DPI) Academically or Intellectually Gifted program (AIG). Auditors discovered that both the spending and the quality/effectiveness of AIG’s programs are largely unmonitored by DPI. As a result, academically gifted students may not receive the intended educational services they need to compete in a national and global setting.

[Mar. 28, 2008] During the week of the ACC tournament, Pittsboro Elementary students, parents, and staff were encouraged to bring in money to put in a jar labeled with their favorite local ACC team. The money raised will go to the Pittsboro Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society.

Three students win at State Science and Engineering FairThree students win at State Science and Engineering Fair
[Mar. 28, 2008] Four students from Chatham County Schools participated in the state science fair following recent success at the county and regional levels of science fair competition. Three students won in their divisions and, in doing so, earned invitations to compete in national science competitions. The 2008 science fair was held on Saturday, March 15, at Meredith College in Raleigh.
