[Dec. 22, 2005] During its annual December meeting, the Piedmont Triad Education Consortium honored Siler City Elementary as the 2005-2006 Chatham County Schools Signature School. The central office cabinet, board of education members, and three representatives from Siler City Elementary School attended the event. Receiving the award on behalf of their students and staff were principal Angie Brady-Andrew, school teacher of the year Amy Seitz, and school improvement team chairperson Ellen Hamm.
 
Harrison & North Chatham students combine for projectHarrison & North Chatham students combine for project
[Dec. 22, 2005] Eighth grade language arts students at Perry Harrison and North Chatham have worked on a combined project this semester. Since the beginning of the school year, the students have been corresponding with each other. Both groups of students read the novel, The Giver, by Lois Lowry.

[Dec. 22, 2005] The Northwood High School Key Club sponsored a holiday food drive for CORA (Chatham Outreach Alliance), a local food bank. Students and staff collected all types of canned goods for community use. Over 2,000 goods were donated.

[Dec. 21, 2005] In an effort to encourage the staff and faculty to exercise more and be role models for their students, a competion was created with prizes awarded to the top teams based on how many steps were taken. Seventeen teams competed during the month of November logging all steps taken on a weekly basis.

[Dec. 20, 2005] On Friday, December 16, a bluegrass trio performed for elementary students at Perry Harrison School and Pittsboro Elementary School. The trio delighted students with holiday-themed songs for the remainder of the performance.

[Dec. 20, 2005] Chatham County Schools has students who are finalists prestigious scholarship competitions. Senior April Williamson is a Morehead Scholarship finalist from Jordan-Matthews High School. Brian Austin is a senior at Northwood High School. He is a candidate in the competition for a Special Scholarship to be awarded through the 2006 National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
 
“El Libro Rojo” comes to North Chatham
[Nov. 29, 2005] On Thursday, November 16, students in kindergarten through grade five enjoyed a production of “El Libro Rojo”. The production, translated “The Red Book” in English, is a short musical fable that is written and performed entirely in Spanish.

[Nov. 16, 2005] Christy Dowd, a teacher in Exceptional Education at Jordan-Matthews High School, has been selected as the 2005 Chatham County Exceptional Children's Teacher of Excellence. Dowd was recognized during the fifty-fifth Conference on Exceptional Children sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

[Nov. 14, 2005] On November 15, 2005, during National Education Week, Jordan-Matthews High School in Chatham County will host a College Application Day. [Nov. 13, 2005] The highlight of the Northwood marching band season came on a dazzling Saturday afternoon for the Marching Chargers at the North Davidson High School Band Festival. This final competition on Saturday, November 5, marked the culmi-nation of months of practice, rehearsals, preparation, construction, revisions and refinement by the seventy-five band members, fourteen-member color guard, band director, assistant instructors, and crew of family and friends.

[Oct. 29, 2005] Pittsboro, NC - The Strategic Planning Committee had its initial meeting at Horton Middle School at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2005. Dr. Ann Hart, Superintendent, introduced herself, saying it was an honor to serve this community as its superintendent. Dr. Hart welcomed all participants, thanking the participants for joining the school community in this endeavor and bringing their individual expertise to this project.
 
Chatham Central band announces fruit saleChatham Central band announces fruit sale
[Oct. 25, 2005] The Chatham Central Area Bands will kick off its first fundraising drive on Wednesday, October 26. During this season's drive, volunteers will take orders door-to-door throughout the area for fresh citrus fruit from Florida. The drive themed "Great Fruit For A Good Cause," is expected to raise much-needed funds for our band program and will be conducted for two weeks from October 26 through November 9.
 
J.S. Waters Elementary addresses health with innovative physical activity
[Oct. 19, 2005] Since 1991, Concept 2 has been offering twenty-five selected elementary and middle schools in the United States and Canada up to two Indoor Rowers for the course of the school year. To address the situation of obesity through increasing physical activity, Principal Gary Yoder, J. S. Waters Elementary School with the assistance of Phyllis Smith, FCE, RD, LDN Chatham County Center – North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service applied for the program. By Phyllis Smith
