North Carolina announces Chatham County dropout rates
[Mar. 1, 2006] The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and the State Board of Education announced student dropout rates from the 2004-2005 school year on Wednesday, March 1.

NC dropout rate decreases in 2004-05
[Mar. 1, 2006] In the 2004-05 school year, approximately one out of every 20 North Carolina high school students dropped out of school jeopardizing their opportunities for future success, according to the Annual Dropout Event Report presented to the State Board of Education today. This equates to an annual high school dropout rate of 4.7 percent.

Committee plans for Project Graduation
[Feb. 27, 2006] Since 1990, Project Graduation has been an annual event for graduating seniors from all three high schools. Seniors and their guests enjoy a fun-filled evening with music, games and plenty of food in a safe graduation celebration that is alcohol and drug free. By George Greger-Holt

Lady Cubs take Chatham county championship
[Feb. 25, 2006] The JS Waters' Lady Cubs had an impressive 2005-2006 basketball season with lots of team spirit and school/community support. Even though there is no official championship among Chatham County Middle Schools, a 13-1 record certainly places the Lady Cubs at the top.

Northwood begins registration process
[Feb. 23, 2006] Northwood High School is beginning its course registration process on Monday, February 27. Guidance counselors and Principal Joel County will be meeting with each grade level to review course of studies and pathways during the school day on Monday. Course registrations will be for the upcoming school year, which is divided into two semesters. The daily schedule in Chatham County high schools is divided into four class periods.

Jordan-Matthews senior receives Naval Academy appointment
[Feb. 6, 2006] Chris Reyes, a senior at Jordan-Matthews High School, has received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy. He was nominated by Congressman Bob Etheridge. Reyes' acceptance of the appointment will lead him down a path of preparation for a career as a professional Navy or Marine Corp officer.

2006 - 2007 Academic Proposed Calendar
[Jan. 29, 2006] The Chatham County, North Carolina public school system has released the proposed 2006-2007 academic calendar. The first day of school for students will be August 25, 2006. The last day for students will June 8, 2007.

Northwood wins High School Quiz Bowl
[Jan. 24, 2006] For the third consecutive year, Northwood High School has won the Chatham County High School Quiz Bowl event. On Monday evening, January 23, teams from each of the three county high schools competed during the competition in the multipurpose room of Central Carolina Community College in Pittsboro. The Chatham County Public Libraries sponsored the high school quiz bowl.

Semi-finalists await Morehead news
[Jan. 24, 2006] Three Chatham County high school seniors are anxiously awaiting news from the Morehead Foundation about their status in the running for 2006 Morehead Scholarship awards.

Northwood seeks prom sponsors
[Jan. 10, 2006] Northwood High School's prom committee is seeking sponsors for the March 11 event at the Fearrington Barn. The committee wants to offer students an evening of entertainment that will keep them off the road and away from after-prom parties, organizers said.

Help name the new Siler City school
[Jan. 7, 2006] The Chatham County Board of Education and a Name the School Committee is soliciting suggestions from staff, students, and the community as it goes through the process of naming the new elementary school currently being built in Siler City.
