[Mar. 7, 2006] The 2006 kindergarten registration process is beginning for schools across Chatham County. Registration will be held for children who will be five years old on or before October 16, 2006, or who are not presently enrolled in a public kindergarten and will be six years old on or before October 16, 2006.

[Mar. 1, 2006] In the 2004-05 school year, approximately one out of every 20 North Carolina high school students dropped out of school jeopardizing their opportunities for future success, according to the Annual Dropout Event Report presented to the State Board of Education today. This equates to an annual high school dropout rate of 4.7 percent.

[Feb. 25, 2006] The JS Waters' Lady Cubs had an impressive 2005-2006 basketball season with lots of team spirit and school/community support. Even though there is no official championship among Chatham County Middle Schools, a 13-1 record certainly places the Lady Cubs at the top.

[Feb. 23, 2006] Northwood High School is beginning its course registration process on Monday, February 27. Guidance counselors and Principal Joel County will be meeting with each grade level to review course of studies and pathways during the school day on Monday. Course registrations will be for the upcoming school year, which is divided into two semesters. The daily schedule in Chatham County high schools is divided into four class periods.

[Feb. 6, 2006] Chris Reyes, a senior at Jordan-Matthews High School, has received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy. He was nominated by Congressman Bob Etheridge. Reyes' acceptance of the appointment will lead him down a path of preparation for a career as a professional Navy or Marine Corp officer.

[Jan. 24, 2006] For the third consecutive year, Northwood High School has won the Chatham County High School Quiz Bowl event. On Monday evening, January 23, teams from each of the three county high schools competed during the competition in the multipurpose room of Central Carolina Community College in Pittsboro. The Chatham County Public Libraries sponsored the high school quiz bowl.
