Board of Education to recognize past members[Sep. 17, 2007] The Chatham County Board of Education will recognize past Board members at a reception on November 13. A set of two plaques containing the names of past and present members has been created and will hang in the central office.
September 10th Board of Education meeting summary[Sep. 12, 2007] The Chatham County Board of Education held a meeting on Monday, August 20, 2007, at 7:30 p.m. in the central office board room. Board Chair Norman Clark called the meeting to order, and the Board adopted the amended meeting agenda. The Board approved open session and amended closed session minutes from its August 20 meeting.
Minutes from the August 20th Board of Education meeting[Sep. 12, 2007] The Chatham County Board of Education met for a regular session on Monday August 20, 2007 in the CCS Central Office Board room at 7:46 p.m. Members present were Chairman Clark; Vice-chair Deb McManus; Holly Duncan; Kathie Russell; and Gerald Totten. Superintendent Dr. Ann Y. Hart, substitute Board Attorney Trey Allen, and Board Assistant Pamela Cathcart were also present.
Third grade teachers receive photosynthesis kits[Sep. 12, 2007] During a staff development session on Thursday, September 6, third grade teachers in Chatham County Schools received photosynthesis kits to use during classroom instruction. The “Photosynthesis Promenade” kits were compiled and donated by the Chatham County Farm Bureau. The kit development was supported by a Monsanto grant to North Carolina Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom.

Minutes from the August 6th Board of Education meeting[Aug. 21, 2007] The Chatham County Board of Education met for a work session on Monday August 6, 2007 in the CCS Central Office Board room at 7:57 p.m. Members present were Chairman Clark; Vice-chair Deb McManus; Holly Duncan; Kathie Russell; and Gerald Totten. Superintendent Dr. Ann Y. Hart, substitute Board Attorney Trey Allen, and Board Assistant Pamela Cathcart were also present.
Chatham Schools' Adequate Yearly Progress results decline two years in a row[Aug. 19, 2007] On the morning of August 17, the Department of Public Instruction released preliminary Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) results for the 2006-2007 school year. For the 2006-2007 school year in Chatham County Schools, five of fourteen schools made AYP. Bennett School, Bonlee School, Chatham Central High School, Moncure School, and Silk Hope School made AYP. For the 2005-2006 school year, six of fourteen schools made AYP. For the 2004-2005 school year, eleven of fourteen schools made AYP.
Haithcox named SAGE Academy principal[Aug. 15, 2007] Daniel Haithcox, former Assistant Principal of Horton Middle School, has been selected as the Principal of SAGE Academy. SAGE is the district's alternative high school and is located in Siler City.
Are our kids safe in Chatham County schools?[Aug. 11, 2007] Much has been said about one of the Chatham County School’s strategic plan goals, “Healthy Students in Safe, Orderly and Caring Schools.” Every school has made a presentation of its School Improvement Plan designed to convey its interpretation of how it can best meet that goal. No telling how many hours are spent by teachers and individual school staffs putting a shine on their presentations to the Board of Education.

Chatham students head back to school on August 27[Aug. 7, 2007] Over 7,500 students and 1,200 employees in Chatham County Schools will usher in a new school year this August. There will be a required teacher workday on August 21. Staff development sessions are planned for the afternoon of August 21. August 22-24 are optional teacher workdays. Students will return to school on Monday, August 27.
