Pittsboro, NC - The Chatham County Board of Education and a Name the School Committee is soliciting suggestions from staff, students, and the community as it goes through the process of naming the new middle school currently being built in northeastern Chatham County, NC.

Individuals interested in offering recommendations should use the following criteria in helping identify possible names for the new building:
• the name may be that of an educational or community leader of prominence; priority will be given to the names of educational or community leaders who have directly or indirectly helped students in this school attendance zone to succeed;
• the name may specify the geographic locality or description of the school.

The school, which the district plans to open in the fall of 2010, will be located off Andrews Store Road in northeastern Chatham County.

Recommendations of names for the school are being accepted from Tuesday, September 1, through Thursday, October 1. There is a bilingual PDF form on the district website at; copies of the form are in schools and at the central office; and forms are available at WNCA radio in Siler City, and the Pittsboro Memorial Library in Pittsboro. Completed forms should be returned to one of the following three locations:
• Chatham County Schools, P.O. Box 128, Pittsboro, NC 27312, c/o Beth McCullough, Public Information Officer
• North Chatham School, 3380 Lystra Church Rd., Chapel Hill, NC 27527, c/o Wendy Phillips
• Perry Harrison School, 2655 Hamlet Chapel Rd., Pittsboro, NC 27312, c/o Kim Harris

The Name the School Committee will meet to narrow down the submitted potential school names and bring ideas to the Board of Education during its work session on November 2. The committee will be comprised of students, parents, and staff members at Perry Harrison School and North Chatham School, community members, and Superintendent Robert Logan.
