Pittsboro, NC - As part of a unit about media literacy and propaganda, eighth grade students of Rocquel Erman at Perry Harrison School worked with a local artist, Linda Collura, to design, create, and paint a mural on the middle school hallway. The artist was funded by Chatham County Arts Council.

The mural is also a springboard for a thematic focus the entire eighth grade team will have for the spring semester: Teal Goes Green. One of Harrison's school colors is teal.

Eighth grade students presented the mural in early February to the other grade levels, explaining specific behaviors students can implement to become more responsible citizens, and thus protect our earth. Erman was impressed with the creativity and focus of the students, as well as the flexibility of over one hundred people to accomplish a task of this magnitude within one month.

"This mural will have its place in the history of the Perry Harrison community," commented Erman.
