Bear Creek, NC - Chatham Central High School FFA chapter is among many across the nation that will celebrate National FFA Week Feb. 16-23, 2008. On Friday, February 22, an officer from the Southern Region National FFA, Brady Revels, will be a guest in the Chatham Central Horticulture Department.

The National FFA Organization focuses on agricultural education. Blue Jackets, Bright Futures is the theme this year and it embodies all the best about FFA members, from the most recognizable symbol of the organization, the blue corduroy jacket, a symbol of pride and tradition, to the bright future of agriculture and the traditions of leadership and hard work. More than half a million members around the nation will participate in National FFA Week activities at the local and state levels.

The focus of National FFA Week is to tell America about the great opportunities available for all youth. From its beginnings in 1928 as the Future Farmers of America, the National FFA Organization today reaches out to all fifty states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. FFA is committed to developing character and leadership skills and preparing members for a lifetime of civic leadership and career success.

FFA members at Chatham Central High School will be celebrating with the community and non- members by participating in many activities. A few include: an elementary school coloring contest, prize giveaways, agriculture related games, and an end of the week visit with a National Officer.

FFA members have opportunities to attend national leadership conferences, develop a supervised agricultural experience learning project, learn life skills and serve their communities with civic engagement. Through classroom instruction and hands-on learning, agricultural education and FFA are making a positive difference for members every day.

FFA members are our future engineers, scientists, teachers and producers. Students earn awards, recognition and educational scholarships to pursue their career goals. One of every five Americans is employed in the food, fiber and natural resources industries of agriculture, and FFA members are a part of these industries.

FFA members are the leaders of tomorrow. They are well-mannered, perceptive and willing to help others through community service. They are success-oriented students who are driven to achieve their goals. FFA gives many young people an important push to consider their futures--what kind of people, citizens and professionals they intend to be. FFA builds leaders, and leaders impact the future.

National FFA Week is sponsored by Case IH as a special project of the National FFA Foundation. The Foundation is the fundraising arm of the National FFA and supports programs by working with sponsors to raise funds for scholarships that are awarded to outstanding members.
