High school chapters compete in state DECA events

Chatham county, NC - Students from Chatham Central, Jordan-Matthews, and Northwood high schools attended the North Carolina DECA State Competitive Events Conference held March 1-3 in Greensboro. Many of the students competed in various competitive events.

Meredith Pleasants, Caroline Butts, Tony Reyes and Robert Smith, students at Jordan-Matthews, received metals for a top score on their tests or role plays.

Seventeen students from Jordan-Matthews were named as overall event finalists. Among these were Justin Shaw and Diana Diamant in the International Business Plan Event; Molly Parks and Katie Coleman in Hospitality and Recreation Marketing; JJ Daniel in the Entrepreneurship Participation Event; Adrian Degrafenreidt in the E-commerce Business Plan Event; Michelle Pyrtle and Craig Wood in the Public Relations Event; and Brittany Evans and Sara Shaw in Retail Marketing. All of these students finished among the top ten in their respective categories.

Tony Reyes finished third in Technical Sales. Jennifer Dameron and Corey Martin finished third in Business & Financial Service Marketing. Brittany Woolard and Caroline Butts finished third in the Advertising Campaign. Sarah Johnson and Meredith Pleasants finished in first place in the Advertising Campaign.

Eleven of the Jordan-Matthews students are eligible to compete at the International Career Development Conference in Orlando.

The following Northwood students received awards for their state DECA competition performance:

The following students were recognized for top scores in their role-play events:

Ashton Haithcox and Shakira Carrington, 6th place Sports & Entertainment Marketing Team Decision Making Event
Aaron Lamb, 3rd place, Retail Merchandising Series Event
Brionna Skinner, 7th place, Accounting Application Services Event
Ron Watson and Jake Williams, 6th place, E-Commerce Marketing Team Decision Making Event
Bradley Williams, 3rd place, Hotel and Lodging Services Marketing

These students will now advance to Orlando, Florida for the International DECA Competitive Events Conference in April.
