County schools schedule kindergarten registration for 2005-2006 school year

Elementary schools in Chatham County Schools have scheduled their kindergarten registration processes for the upcoming school year. Registration will be held for children who will be five years old on or before October 16, 2005 or are not presently enrolled in a public kindergarten and will be six years old on or before October 16, 2005. It is most helpful to the schools if parents provide the school with the child's social security number; however, it is not mandatory.

Bennett School
Kindergarten registration will be held April 5 & 6 from 2:45-4:00 p.m. Staff will meet with parents in the media center to register children. The counselor and school nurse will work with parents and teachers will work
with new students. Families need to call Sally Murchison, school counselor, at (336) 581-3915 to sign up for a date to register.
What parents need to bring: Their child and the child's birth certificate, social security card, and immunization records so the school can make copies. Families are also asked to bring any important health or legal documents.

Bonlee School
Kindergarten registration will be held Wednesday, April 13, from 8:30 a.m.-noon.

What parents need to bring: Their child and the child's birth certificate, social security card, and shot records

J.S. Waters School
Kindergarten registration will be April 20 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Parents should call the school prior to that date to set up an appointment time at 8:30, 9:30, or 10:30 on April 20.

What parents need to bring: Their child's birth certificate, social security number, immunization record and physical address

Moncure School
Kindergarten registration will be held March 21-24. On March 21, 23, and 24 parents can register their child between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. On March 22, the registration time will be extended, held from 8:00 a.m. until 7 p.m. Parents do not need to schedule an appointment ahead of time for these registration date choices.
What parents need to bring: Their child's immunization records, birth certificate, social security card, and proof of residency

Other: Kindergarten screening will take place May 9-13 by appointment. Parents of potential pre-k students should contact Pre-K program teacher Debbie Glosson at 542-3725 about registration details.

North Chatham School
Kindergarten registration will be March 7-9 from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
What parents need to bring: Their child's birth certificate, immunization records, social security card, and proof of residency within the North Chatham district (driver's license, bill, etc.)

Perry Harrison School
Screening will be held May 10, 2005 from 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Parents/Guardians of children entering kindergarten in the fall should call the office (919) 967-9925 to schedule a time for their child.

What parents need to bring to registration: Their child's birth certificate, a copy of the child's immunizations, proof of residence, and kindergarten physical. A social security card is optional.

Pittsboro Elementary School
Kindergarten registration will be held March 21 and 23 from 12:00-4:00 p.m. and March 22 and 24 from 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. School contacts are receptionist Charlene Farrell and secretary Sarah Cooper. Families can call the school at 542-3987 to set up an appointment or drop-in on the above dates and times.
What parents need to bring to registration: Registration in March is only for the parents to come to the school. Children should not come with their parents since this is just a time to do paperwork. Parents need to bring the following: birth certificate, immunization record, social security card, kindergarten health screening (if completed), and proof of residency.
Other Information: Children will go through a screening process conducted by the Kindergarten Teachers on May 25 and 26. Parents will be notified by mail when their child is to attend for their screening.

Siler City Elementary School
Kindergarten registration will be February 28-March 18. Registration packets will be available in the school office from 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Parents need to bring to Registration: birth certificate, immunization records, social security card (not required for enrollment), parent driver's license or bill for proof of residency within the Siler City Elementary school district
Other information: In addition to the 3-week registration window, parent information sessions and informal kindergarten screenings will be held on March 22 and March 23. Screening will be held by appointment. Parents may sign up for an appointment when they register their child or they may call the school for an appointment time. The parent session will be held in the media center while the students will be in the kindergarten classrooms. All kindergarten teachers, ESL teachers, the school nurse, school counselors, the school social worker, administrators and volunteers will assist with the information/screening sessions.

The Siler City Elementary School Pre-K at the Paul Braxton Children's Center will have a registration period from March 1 through May 13. Parents can call the William UreƱa, Pre-K Parent Involvement Coordinator, at 663-3610 to schedule an appointment between the hours of 8:30-3:00 during these dates.
Parents need to bring to Registration: birth certificate, immunization records, social security card (not required for enrollment), parent driver's license or bill for proof of residency within the Siler City Elementary school district.
Other information: In addition to the March 1- May 13 registration window, parents will also have the opportunity to attend an evening registration event on April 28th from 4:00-8:00 pm. Screening of the Pre-K children will be held by appointment. Parents may sign up for an appointment when they register their child. Screening will take place on May 24-26.

Silk Hope School
Walk in registration for children who will enter kindergarten at Silk Hope School in August 2005 will be held March 7, 8, 10, and 11 from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and Wednesday, March 9. From 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Kindergarten Screening will not take place during registration.
