Moncure, NC - George Cooper has been selected as the interim principal of Moncure School. He was approved by the Chatham County Board of Education on Monday evening, August 14, and reported to work on Tuesday morning, August 15.

“We are appreciative that Mr. Cooper is joining us at Moncure School. His experience and appreciation for a smaller school environment will be a good fit for the school and in the community,” said Ann Hart, Superintendent.

Cooper earned an undergraduate degree from Pembroke State (now UNC Pembroke). He taught physical education for three years at Ft. Bragg Schools. He later earned a Master of School Administration from East Carolina University.

From 1974-2004 Cooper served as a principal in Wake County Schools. During his thirty-year tenure in administration, he was a principal at five different elementary schools, the first of which was a small, rural school with slightly over 300 students.

After retiring, Cooper chose to do interim work in school administration. His time at Moncure will be his third interim position. The previous two were in Wake County.

Cooper expressed his enthusiasm about coming to Moncure School. He noted that his hometown was smaller than Moncure.

“I missed education. There's a lot of great work out there to be done. However, there is nothing as righteous as school work, working with students, teachers, and parents. The relationships you form are absolutely wonderful. Retirement is fun, but schoolwork is rewarding,” explained Cooper.
