Chatham students are successful at State Junior Beta Club convention

Greensboro, NC - Students from various schools in Chatham County Schools participated in the annual North Carolina Junior Beta Club convention held February 7-8 in Greensboro. Bennett, Bonlee, J.S. Waters, and Silk Hope each had students who won first place in a category.

The Bennett Junior Beta chapter, which had 32 Beta members attend the convention, had several competition entries including:
• second place in the state - oil and acrylics (Tanner Henson)
• first place in the state - scrapbook (Makenzi Brady, Avery Williamson, Courtney Williamson, Bailey Brewer, Gracie Brown, and Caroline Webster) These students are invited to compete at the National Convention in Nashville, TN, in June.
Bennett also had several other students to participate in events/competitions.

The Bonlee Junior Beta chapter had several competition entries including:
• 1st place in the state - spotlight your club (Addie Pegram and Lauren Webster)
• 2nd place in the state - wreath (Anna Dixon and Brooke Hayes)
• 3rd place in the state - sculpture (Sara Beal)
• Top 5 finish out of 50 entries - poster competition (Justin Phillips, Justin Sessoms, Abby Wilkins, and Sheridan McKeithan)

The J.S. Waters Junior Beta chapter had several competition entries including:
• Hannah Russell, pencil drawing;
• Jayley Hendrickson, black and white photography;
• Jessica Lane, color photography;
• Rebecca Elixson and Calan Elkins, banner. Elixson and Elkins won first place in the banner competition and advanced to the national level of competition in Nashville this summer to compete.

The Silk Hope Junior Beta chapter participated in the following competitions:
• Arts and crafts: wreath, sketching, photography, handmade jewelry, and recyclable art
• Special talent on the piano
• Banner
• Songfest - earned second place in the state
• Spelling Bee
• Quiz Bowl
• Math, Science, and Social Studies competitions
• Spotlighting Your Club
• Living Literature - earned first place in the state for a depiction of Where a Red Fern Grows (Jessica Pike, Amanda Cheek, Marissa Devine, Carly Martinelli, Parker Lajunesse, Tyler Montrose)
