Pittsboro, NC - During the Chatham County Board of Education meeting on Monday, December 3, Dr. Donna James, Director of AdvancED in North Carolina, presented Board Chair David Hamm with an official plaque and banner for the school district to recognize its completion of AdvancED School System Accreditation from the AdvancED Accreditation Commission, the national commission that confers the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI) accreditation seal. This means that the system and all of its schools are accredited, and that Chatham County Schools is recognized across the nation as a quality school system.

“I am pleased to be here this evening to recognize the Chatham County School system as one of the 61 school systems across North Carolina who has achieved the recognition of AdvancED/SACS CASI District Accreditation. The Board of Education and Superintendent Logan are to be commended for the courage and foresight to make the decision to engage in the systems model of accreditation,” commented James.

A team conducted a site visit last March as part of the process. The accreditation process involved three ongoing components: 1) meeting high quality standards; 2) implementing a continuous process of improvement; and 3) engaging in quality assurance through internal and external review. The system’s accreditation is for a five-year term with regular monitoring of progress and reporting occurring during the term.

Though schools across the district have been accredited for many years, 2012 marks the first time Chatham County Schools has undertaken the district-wide accreditation process.
