Pittsboro, NC - Since last week, officials in Chatham County Schools have been closely monitoring the weather system that will be entering the area at the beginning of this week. If precipitation necessitates a closing or delay, the district will utilize its rapid communication system (AlertNow) to notify families and employees via telephone and email in either English or Spanish. Area television and radio stations are also contacted in the event of a status change.

Additionally, the central office telephone weather line (919-542-3626) and the district homepage ( would have a message. Over the past year, Chatham County Schools has also begun to utilize social media to announce messages of this type. The district has a presence on Twitter (ChathamCoSch) and Facebook.

In the event of a closing or delay, officials encourage students and parents to keep in close contact with their individual schools for announcements related to high school exams that are scheduled for the week of January 10th, athletic practices and games, and other extracurricular activities. School level officials have access to rapid communication systems like that of the district as well as Internet announcement pages. Many schools also have Twitter accounts.
