Chatham County seniors are scholarship finalists

Chatham County, NC - Chatham County Schools has students who are finalists prestigious scholarship competitions.

Senior April Williamson is a Morehead Scholarship finalist from Jordan-Matthews High School. Scholarship recipients have tuition, room and board paid during their undergraduate study as attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. They also receive a laptop computef, a stipend each semester and have the opportunity to participate in summer enrichment programs. This honored award has more than 2,500 alumni in the United States and abroad.

Brian Austin is a senior at Northwood High School. He is a candidate in the competition for a Special Scholarship to be awarded through the 2006 National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Special scholarships are administered with the sponsor's Merit Scholarship awards by National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). Scholarships awarded through National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) programs are regarded as some of the highest academic honors attainable by high school students.

Last year NMSC awarded scholarships valued at $50 million to more than 10,500 qualified students.
The majority of awards are provided by independent sponsor organizations while NMSC underwrites approximately twenty-five percent.
