Pittsboro, NC - Over 100 middle school musicians from across Chatham County Schools participated in the 2011 All County Band event on Thursday, April 7, at Northwood High School.

Having worked with their individual school band directors prior to the event to learn the musical selections, the seventh and eighth graders rehearsed the majority of the day prior to the 7:00 p.m. public concert with David Seiberling, the musical director and conductor of the Moore County Concert Band. Seiberling is also performer, frequent guest conductor and clinician for various honor bands, festival adjudicator, and a retired band director from Union Pines High School.

Among the pieces the All County Band performed during the concert were The Tempest by Robert W. Smith and, for the concert finale, an arrangement by Michael Story of music from John Williams’ Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith score.

The Northwood High School Jazz Band opened the concert and gave the middle school musicians and audience an opportunity to see how middle school band participation can lead to advanced musical opportunities in high school.
