Chatham County High School students compete in State SkillsUSA competitions

Students from all four high schools in Chatham Coumty Schools competed in SkillsUSA state competitive events during the state conference held March 30-April 1 in Greensboro. Competition results were announced on Friday morning, April 1.

Guadalupe Rodriguez from the Chatham Central chapter won the prepared speech competition and will advance to the national competition this summer in Kansas City.

The Jordan-Matthews SkillsUSA chapter had the following students compete:
Dakota Cordaro –Welding Contest
Josue Rodriguez – Poster Contest
Noah Jones – Technical Drafting Contest
Danae Kight – Poster Contest
Tanya Lagunas – Creed A Contest
Tristan Parnell – Drafting 1 Contest
Maria Martinez – Promotional Bulletin Board Contest
Adam Nona – Carpentry Contest
Alexander Nona – Carpentry 1 Contest

The following Jordan-Matthews students were recognized for their high competition placement:
Abbey Stinnett – first place winner, Nursing Assistant (qualifying her to compete at the national contest in Kansas City in June)
Lerrisa Tellez – second place, First Aid/CPR (qualifying her to compete at the national contest in Kansas City in June)
Austin Partin – second place, Community Service
Michael Fairrington – third place, Outstanding Chapter
Yoselin Teutle of SAGE Academy – fifth place, Cosmetology Contest
Anallely Ortiz – sixth place, Cosmetology Contest

Maria Martinez, Tanya Lagunas, and Danae Kight have been elected as Region 5 officers.

From the Northwood SkillsUSA chapter, Desiree Lawler, Briana Sercy and Karlie May competed in Chapter Display and won the competition, qualifying them to compete at the national contest in Kansas City in June. Nickie Hamilton competed in Job Skills Demo "A" competition. Lizzie Gordon competed in Technical Math and earned a fifth place finish. Delaney Henry competed in Job Skill Demo "O" and earned second place. Camila Britt ran for state office and competed in the Carpentry 1 competition.
