Pittsboro, NC - Several administrative changes will take place across Chatham County Schools for the 2012-2013 school year. Superintendent Robert Logan announced changes in leadership at three schools during the July 12 Chatham County Board of Education meeting.

Charles Aiken, currently the principal of North Chatham School, will become the Executive Director of Middle Grades and Title III for the district. Title III is a federal program that involves language instruction for Limited English Proficient (LEP) and immigrant students. The Curriculum and Instruction Department is undergoing adjustments of several staff assignments. Aiken will fill a director position that was vacant throughout the 2011-2012 school year.

Dale Minge, currently the principal of Pittsboro Elementary School, will move to the position vacated by Aiken at North Chatham.

Chris Poston, currently the principal of Bennett School, will become the principal of Pittsboro Elementary School as Minge moves to North Chatham. The district will hire a new principal at Bennett. Though each will begin some work in their new positions, all three principals, Aiken, Minge, and Poston, will remain at their current posts until a new Bennett principal is on board.

“Please join me in congratulating these excellent school administrators on their new assignments as we look forward to welcoming them to their new roles. Time and circumstances did not allow for the principal selection committee input process for these assignments, but it is without reservation that I feel these administrative assignments will result in favorable outcomes for the schools, students, and staff involved,” said Logan.

During a June meeting, the Board of Education hired Freda Hicks to replace Janice Frazier as principal of Perry Harrison School. Frazier has moved to the central office as the head of personnel.

Kelly Batten joined the district in June as the Executive Director of Secondary and Career/Technical Education to fill a position vacated by Derrick Jordan, who became the Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services in January.

In April the Board hired Milinda Martina as the Executive Director of Exceptional Children and Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG). George Greger-Holt had been in charge of both Exceptional Children programs and Student Services during the 2011-2012 school year. He is now focusing solely on the student services area.

The board also hired Tony Messer in April as the Chief Operating Officer for the district, replacing Susan Little, who retired in February.
