Chatham County Schools honor employees

Pittsboro, NC - On Thursday evening, September 23, Chatham County Schools and the Chatham County Board of Education honored several groups of employees who had been recognized by their colleagues.

A Teacher of the Year from each school and the Chatham County Teacher of the Year were recognized. A school level Teacher of the Year receives a plaque and a $500 check from the Chatham County Board of Education. Marcus Herman-Giddens, a mathematics teacher at Northwood High School, is the Chatham County Teacher of the Year. He received an additional plaque and a $2,000 check from the Board of Education. Herman-Giddens will now compete in the regional round that will eventually lead to the naming of the N.C. Teacher of the Year.

  • Northwood – Marcus Herman-Giddens
  • Perry Harrison – Dawn Streets
  • Pittsboro Elem. – Betsy Mitchell
  • SAGE Academy – Mary Beth Clark
  • Siler City Elem. – Ashleigh Bray
  • Silk Hope – Tania Poston
  • Va. Cross Elem. – Gladys Castro
A Teacher Assistant of the Year from individual schools and the Chatham County Teacher of the Year were recognized. A school level Teacher Assistant of the Year receives a plaque and a $100 check from the Chatham County Board of Education. Lynne Davis from Virginia Cross Elementary School is the 2010 Chatham County Teacher Assistant of the Year. She received an additional plaque and a $300 check from the Board of Education.

  • Va. Cross Elem. – Lynne Davis
Superintendent Robert Logan recognized Chris Blice, who is the principal of Northwood High School, as the 2009-2010 Chatham County Principal of the Year. Blice went on to be named the Piedmont-Triad/Central Region Principal of the Year last February. He was one of eight principals across the state to be selected at the regional level.

The school district also recognized its retirees from the 2009-2010 school year. Each received a plaque in appreciation for their years of service to the district and its students.
