Members of the public, of high school age and up are invited to attend this no admission event.

“We invite not only members of the Woods community, but our neighbors in surrounding areas throughout Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Pittsboro and other nearby communities to join us,” commented Harrell Rentz, Principal of Woods Charter School. “Our educational commitment and philosophy extends beyond the 512 students we currently serve at Woods, and I hope that we will meet many new faces at these events.”

In the past, events such as Woods Rock, an annual music festival, and the Foundation’s Annual Benefit Auction have successfully achieved the multiple goals of bringing the Woods community together, enriching the greater Chapel Hill and Chatham and Orange County communities, and helping to fund necessities such as textbooks, classroom resources, and professional development at Woods.

The Woods Charter School Foundation was established in 2007 with a focus on fundraising to bridge the gap between inadequate state and federal funding and the cost of providing a quality education and securing the long-term financial stability of Woods Charter School. The primary focus of the Foundation is to support the educational pursuits of students through programming, facility enhancements, and supplemental faculty resources. Since 2007, the Foundation has raised nearly $500,000, used to outfit Woods Charter School with such items as items such as a school-wide security system, lockers, computers, white boards, complete setup for science labs, and start-up items for our very first kindergarten classes. Realizing that Woods Charter School and its families benefit from participation in the greater community, the Foundation also endeavors to provide opportunities to enrich the quality of life in the region surrounding our school.
