Bear Creek, NC - Mickey Fields, a ninth grader at Chatham Central High School, attended the Junior National Young Leaders Alumni Conference in Boston July 17-22. At the conference he and other participants attended classes daily that built on the leadership skills and traits discussed during the 2010 conference in Washington. Fields was nominated as a J.S. Waters School seventh grader by his principal, Beverly Browne, to attend the 2010 conference.
“These skills, such as being a leader and not being influenced by peer pressure, should be helpful as I enter high school this year. We also went on local tours daily, exploring the Boston area. We visited Plymouth Rock, Salem and the Witch Museum, followed the Freedom Trail through Boston and spent the last night of conference aboard the USS Massachusetts. Young people from all across the U.S. attend these conferences, where we build friendships and respect for different races and cultures. This is a good growth experience, as well as fun,” said Fields.
