February 25th Board of Education Meeting Summary

Pittsboro, NC - The Chatham County Board of Education held a meeting on Monday, February 25, 2008, at North Chatham School.

Debra Dixon-Doss from Educator Solutions presented an analysis and overview of the district food service (child nutrition) fund. Susan Little, Chief Finance Officer, gave a recommendation of an increase in food service meal pricing and asked for Board support in re-organizing portions of the program. The request was approved.

Connie Arnold from a newly formed Northwood Athletic Association asked for approval of a brick sale. Funds raised will benefit Northwood athletic programs. The Board approved the request contingent on approval from the architect that will be working on the campus addition/renovation project at Northwood.

Jeff Tsai and Mike Miller from the OR/Ed Lab at N.C. State University shared a projected population growth for the district.

Susan Little discussed with the Board the 2009-09 current expense and capital outlay aspects of the budget. The Board will discuss the budget on March 10 and vote on it during the March 17 meeting.

The Board reviewed two of its policies, 9210 and 7100, as a first reading. After changes are made they will be voted on at a later meeting.

The Board approved the following fundraising requests submitted by schools:
Chatham Central – FCA UNC Children’s Hospital project
North Chatham – middle school dance ticket sales
Northwood – cheerleading awards banquet
Northwood – Student Council junior class t-shirt sale

Tina Hester presented a draft of the 2008-09 draft school year calendar that has been reviewed at the school level for input. The Board will review the calendar and vote on it at the March 17 meeting.
