November 26th Board of Education meeting summary

Pittsboro, NC - The Chatham County Board of Education held a meeting on Monday, November 26, at 7:30 p.m. at Northwood High School.

Eddie Davis, President of the NC Association of Educators, presented the Chatham County Association of Educators (CCAE) with a North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) Blue Ribbon Locals Excellence Award. CCAE is one of less than ten chapters in the state to receive the award. This is the second consecutive year that CCAE has received the honor.

Ed Dunlap, Executive Director of the North Carolina School Boards Association (NCSBA), talked with the Board about the process of a superintendent search. Since 1999, the legal department of NCSBA has offered a service that assists Boards of Education in establishing an application process, hiring timeline, and other logistical aspects of hiring a superintendent. The Board voted to utilize the services of NCSBA.

Dale Smith, of Dixon-Hughes, Certified Public Accountants, shared the Chatham County Schools 2006-2007 audit report.

The Board had its first reading of its policy series 8000 on the topic of fiscal management and policy series 9000 on the topic of facility planning and construction. The Board had its second reading of its policy series 3000 on the topic of the educational plan.

The Board approved the following fundraiser requests submitted by schools:
o Chatham Central - Culinary Arts - Central Station Cafe
o Jordan-Matthews - DECA - donations for the Fuel Up program
o North Chatham - Teaching Assistants - sponsor a Pittsboro Christmas Parade float to raise PTA Thrift Shop funds
o North Chatham - Teaching Assistants - carnival theme baskets
o North Chatham - Teacher Assistants - parents' night out
o Perry Harrison - Yearbook - yearbook advertisements
o Perry Harrison - Yearbook - yearbook sales
o Perry Harrison - Nona Mensah's second grade class - craft sales
