The Chatham County Board of Education is moving forward with the selection of the next superintendent of Chatham County Schools. Although North Carolina personnel laws do not allow the board to release the identity of the candidates to the public, the board carefully considered input from members of the community that was shared during the three Superintendent Search Public Forums and in the Superintendent Search Staff and Community Surveys.

In selecting the initial candidates, the board took into account the community recommendations of candidates possessing previous classroom and administrative experience, professional experience in North Carolina, good communication skills and an emphasis on community. The Chatham County Board of Education will continue to work with the North Carolina School Boards Association to schedule interviews with the selected candidates.

Current Superintendent Larry Mabe will complete his work with the Chatham County Schools on June 30.
