Pittsboro, NC - Last week, the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association gave three of its five annual Sustainable Ag Champion Awards to individuals or organizations in Chatham County. The Association serves both North and South Carolina in its efforts to promote sustainable agriculture practices.
The Chatham County recipients are:
* Debbie Roos, Extension Agent for Chatham County, received the Agent of the Year Award for North Carolina Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education Programs. Roos is recognized natiaonally fir her work promoting small farms and healthy farm ecosystems.
* Britt & Fleming Pfann of Celebrity Dairy received the Farmers of the Year Award. The Britts have produced artisan goat cheese for 20 years and will be developing their farm into a learning center for new farmers.
* Organic Valley Family of Farms received the Business of the Year Award for its work in establishing new organic-certified dairies in the state, including Lindale Organic Dairy in Chatham County.
