Pittsboro, NC -The North Carolina Strawberry Association maintains a list of strawberry plant sources. It is oriented towards commercial growers but also lists some sources that serve home gardeners and will mail order. You can see
the list here.

Ones to check out include:

  • McNeill Farms, Sanford, NC--A local source whose nursery you can easily drive to.
  • Lewis Nursery, Rocky Point, NC--a NC nursery that has been around a long time nad does mail order to consumers
  • Nourse Farms, Deerfield, MA -- a leading Northern nursery with many matted row varieties and strong mail order program
Most North Carolina commercial growers are raising strawberries as annual plants on plastic, using the varieties Chandler, Camarosa, and Sweet Charlie. Home gardeners can approximate the same system of annual planting (I do, and several other home gardeners in the area buy plants with me).

The traditional way of raising strawberries as perennials is "matted row" and growers often use Earliglow (famous for flavor), Sweet
Charlie (good in both systems), and a whole host of other varieties. Ask the nursery for recommendations.

This list is an annual service of the NC Strawberry Association and was updated in May, 2007. Please contact NCSA with any updates or corrections to this list.
