Monday, January 12, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the Agricultural Building in Pittsboro

The Chatham County Center of North Carolina Cooperative Extension will present a crop production workshop as part of its Enhancing Sustainability Workshop Series on Monday, January 12, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the Agricultural Building in Pittsboro. "Crop Rotations for Enhancing Sustainability" will be presented by Peregrine Farm's Alex Hitt. Alex and his wife Betsy have been farming in the area for over 20 years (we like to claim them in Chatham County but they are just over the line in Alamance!) and were selected as National Finalists for the SARE Patrick Madden Sustainable Farmer of the Year in 2002. Alex will talk about how to design and implement cash crop and cover crop rotations to improve soil quality, pest management, efficiency, and profitability. Workshop participants will have an opportunity to engage in a hands-on crop rotation design activity, and I look forward to our usual high level of networking, participation, and sharing among attendees. Please feel free to arrive at 6:30 to enjoy light refreshments.

The cost of the workshop will be $10 to cover materials. Pre-registration is required by January 7. Call 919-542-8202 for more information. To register, mail your check payable to Chatham County to Debbie Roos at PO Box 279, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

Don't forget about these other upcoming workshops:

February 4: Tax Issues for Small Farmers - with Guido van der Hoeven, NCSU; 4:00-7:00 pm, tentative times

March 8: Sustainable Soils Conference - with Noah Ranells, Charles Raczkowski, Keith Baldwin, Joel Gruver, Greg Hoyt, and Debbie Roos; 9:00 am-5:00 pm, tentative times
