Siler City, NC - Chatham Economic Development Corporation and the property owners announced they are changing the name of the Chatham-Randolph Megasite to the Chatham-Siler City Advanced Manufacturing Site. The change reflects Siler City’s enthusiastic participation in the project since its inception.

“Siler City has been a great partner and their eager participation is a tremendous asset to the project,” said Dianne Reid, president of the Chatham Economic Development Corporation. The site is in the town’s jurisdiction, and Siler City will provide water and wastewater services.

The change will also eliminate confusion regarding the Northeast Randolph Property Owners’ “No Megasite Here” campaign along U.S. Route 421. The opposed megasite is located near Liberty, northwest of the Chatham-Siler City Advanced Manufacturing Site.

“The Chatham-Siler City Advanced Manufacturing Site will continue to be marketed to a large single user,” said Reid. “Our number one target continues to be an auto manufacturer.”

The Chatham-Siler City Advanced Manufacturing Site - named one of the top sites in the South for auto assembly by Southern Business & Development - is strategically located near Highway 421 and south of Interstate 85. The 1,818-acre megasite has 5,000 feet of rail frontage and is less than 50 miles from two international airports, Raleigh-Durham International (RDU) and Piedmont-Triad International (GSO). The land is undeveloped and has two owners, both committed to attracting a large industrial user.

In June 2014, the State of North Carolina certified the Chatham-Siler City Advanced Manufacturing Site. The NC Certified Sites program guarantees a site has all necessary infrastructure and engineering in place to be construction-ready within a year. Full details of the program and criteria are in the program booklet.

In 2013, the site was chosen by Duke Energy to participate in its Site Readiness Program.
