Pittsboro, NC - I would like to introduce myself to all those in the Pittsboro area. My name is Dr. Laurie Weiser and I am the new owner/ veterinarian of Pittsboro Animal Hospital.

A little history about me. I grew up in New Jersey, have two undergraduate degrees from Syracuse University and San Francisco State University, and graduated veterinary school from the University of California, Davis.

I lived in Florida the past few years but was driven out by Jeanne, Frances, and Wilma (three new roofs in two years!). I am currently the proud parent of four dogs (2 pugs, a boxer, and a red-bone hound dog), 2 cats, 3 horses and a little cockateil. I received all my small animals either through rescue organizations or found on the street.

Our goal here at Pittsboro Animal Hospital is to offer your pet compassionate and comprehensive veterinary care. All veterinary services are offered including vaccinations, routine spay/ neuter, internal medicine and surgery, geriatric care, puppy/ kitten care, and behavioral consultation.

We also offer other services including grooming, daycare, and boarding. We have a fabulous boarding facility that is under complete renovation and improvement. It includes fouteen extra large indoor temperature controlled runs and two large fenced yards will be completed next week.

We will be adding wading pools for the dogs on those warm days, stuffed kongs to keep them busy during indoor time, and are happy to have either individual or group playtime. Soon we hope to even offer nature walks while boarding or for daycare. Don't just board your dog while you are away, but send them on vacation too!

Lastly we will be opening our retail pet store in the first week of October. We will be carrying Purina veterinary diets, Proplan dog and cat foods, Science Diet foods, and all natural organic Wellness foods. There will also be complete grooming supplies, flea/ tick products, bowls, leashes, collars, carriers, toys, treats galore, and much more. A complete pet store in Pittsboro for all your pets needs.

Please feel free to call our hospital if you have any questions or concerns. We are here for you and your pet's needs.

As a final reminder, I would like ask people to please spay and neuter their pets. There is a benefit not only to the community through pet overpopulation control but also to the individual pet. Females spayed before they ever come into heat have practically no chance of breast cancer, uterine cancer and ovarian cancer. Males cannot get testicular cancer and decrease their chances of prostate cancer greatly. It is a myth that their personalities will change, surgical recovery is fast, and not all spayed and neutered pets will get fat either! I feel strongly that we need to do our part to help animals in need and in doing so plan to work closely with C.A.R.E (Chatham Animal Rescue and Education) helping them to raise money for veterinary care of fostered pets.

Thank you and wishing you and your pets health and happiness,

Dr. Laurie Weiser
