Siler City merchants organize to improve business climate[Sep. 5, 2007]
The Siler City Retail Merchants Association (SCRMA) has come together to begin building the organization necessary to complete its mission of attracting business to the merchants of the town. The group has named Pat Dawson, proprietor of Paperbacks Plus, a bookstore in downtown Siler City, as its President, and begun taking steps to create the environment necessary for retail business to thrive and prosper.
Something new is brewing in Pittsboro[Aug. 15, 2007]
On Friday, August 3, local Chatham County dignitaries and business people attended the pre-opening event at the new Carolina Brewery in Pittsboro to welcome owner Robert Poitras to the neighborhood. Located at the intersection of Highway 15-501 and Highway 64 Bypass the establishment houses brewing operations and the restaurant.

Biolex files for $70 million IPO[Aug. 14, 2007]
Biol ex Inc., a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company, has filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to raise up to $70 million in an initial public offering of stock. Biolex has applied for listing on Nasdaq under the symbol BLEX.
Carolina Brewery to open new location in Pittsboro[Jul. 27, 2007]
Chapel Hill’s award-winning Carolina Brewery will open a second location in Pittsboro in August at the intersection of Highway 15-501 South and Highway 64 Bypass. In addition to housing brewing operations and the restaurant, the new 9,000 square foot facility will feature an outdoor patio, private dining for parties, rehearsal dinners and events, as well as a conference room for meetings. Carolina Brewery & Grill Pittsboro will begin serving dinner Monday August 6th and expand its hours on August 20th to include lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch.

Chatham County Economic Development Corporation welcomes new president[Jun. 28, 2007]
The Chatham County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) Board of Directors held a reception welcoming the new president of the EDC, Dianne Reid, to Chatham County on Tuesday, June 26th 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Central Carolina Community College multipurpose room in Pittsboro.
Historic Cooper-Ford building purchased[May 10, 2007]
Quadrant Properties, LLC has announced plans to renovate the historic Cooper-Ford building located on Hillsboro Street in the heart of downtown Pittsboro. The circa 1919 building has been vacant for years. They plan to refurbish the 9200 square foot space to accommodate retail establishments and executive office suites.
Biolex Therapeutics to present at "Future Leaders in the Biotech Industry" Conference[Mar. 27, 2007]
Biolex Therapeutics announced on Monday that it will be presenting at the Future Leaders in the Biotech Industry conference hosted by BioCentury and Thomson Financial. Pittsboro Starbucks celebrates grand opening[Jan. 17, 2007]
Pittsboro residents created their own customized coffee beverages at the community’s first Starbucks store, which opened its doors at 141 Chatham Downs Drive on January 5. On January 4, the new store welcomed customers with complimentary coffee as well as samples of specialty espresso beverages and delicious pastries.
North Carolina authors support independent bookstore[Dec. 12, 2006]
McIntyre’s Fine Books & Bookends at Fearrington Village Center will host a panel discussion on Getting Published on January 20, 2007, at 11 am. Successful Lulu authors Jon Batson, K. Robert Campbell, Stacey Cochran, Gabriel Gurley, Lori Verni and Lulu staff will address the benefits and procedures of self-publishing, marketing on a budget and other information relevant to local writers. A book signing by the authors will follow.
