Yes Virginia, there is a book store in Siler City[Apr. 2, 2006]
Although I have long suspected that there is more to Pittsboro than people in Siler City realize and vice versa, I was recently shocked to find that knowledge about one's own city is lacking. I am, of course, speaking of the shock and horror I felt upon realizing that some people do not know that the most wonderful used book store in the two cities (and also the only one) does in fact exist.
Biolex Therapeutics receives prestigious award for manufacturing facility[Mar. 22, 2006]
Biolex Therapeutics was awarded special merit recognition in a global competition for excellence in pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities. Biolex was presented the award in New York at the INTERPHEX 2006 Conference and Exhibition, the world's largest and most comprehensive pharmaceutical manufacturing conference. Biolex was recognized for the 2005 expansion of its Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) - certified production facility in Pittsboro, N.C.
Forum looks at economic benefits of green building and renewable energy[Mar. 16, 2006]
On Thursday March 30th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., at the Horton Middle School Multi-Purpose Room on U.S. 15-501 South in Pittsboro, the Chatham Alliance for Sustainable Energy (CASE) will be conducting a free public forum to create countywide understanding and support for economic development strategies and policies that promote the implementation of green building and renewable energy production.
Chatham unemployment rate 4%[Dec. 31, 2005]
Chatham County's unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.0 percent. It was one of 18 counties statewide in which the rate repeated from October to November.
Buskirk new Lazar sales director[Dec. 30, 2005]
Michael T. Buskirk has been named to the new post of director of sales for contemporary upholstery producer Lazar Inds., which has factories in California and in North Carolina.
Ciao Bella pizzeria to open new location[Dec. 22, 2005]
Chatham County's Ciao Bella pizzeria will be opening a second location in Governors Village. Ciao Bella's II will be "more of a tavern and grill," said owner Russ Gray. It will have an expanded menu, adding burgers, wings and more sandwiches to its Italian fare.

Chatham Marketplace begins construction in historic mill[Oct. 5, 2005]
Chatham Marketplace began renovations of their new retail space in the old Chatham Mills on October 3rd. Construction marks the achievement of several financial milestones for the Co-op. More than 100 members of the community have loaned Chatham Marketplace a total of $318,000 through the Community Investment Note program.
Chapel Hill Tire Car Care Center soccer ball giveaway[Sep. 9, 2005]
Young soccer players in Chatham County will be knocking on Chapel Hill Tire Car Care Center's door this month to accept their free soccer ball as part of Uniroyal Tire's national soccer program. Each player with the Chatham County Soccer league will receive a certificate for a free ball redeemable at the Cole Park store (while supplies last).

Chatham Marketplace wants local producers to stock shelves[Aug. 31, 2005]
Chatham Marketplace, is actively seeking local producers for everything that the Co-op will put on the shelves. The co-op is looking for local sources for everything from sustainably grown and organic fruits and vegetables, to meats and dairy products, to candles, crafts and health and beauty aids.

Veterinary open house is a family affair[Aug. 28, 2005]
The Hope Crossing Animal Hospital open house and food drive was definitely a family affair. Dr. David Webster's mom, dad and uncle were in the back grilling up hot dogs and hamburgers for the event, while David was inside giving tours of the new facilities. Shortly after he finished showing me around, the doctor's wife and children showed up to give dad a hand. And as I was leaving with my hamburger and ice tea the doctor's in-laws were rolling into the parking lot.

Sonic grand opening is a wiener[Aug. 23, 2005]
On Thursday evening the newest restaurant in Siler City was packed. People were driving up to the Sonic restaurant and placing their food orders over curbside speakers. Car hops delivered their orders to their parked vehicles. On Friday morning, Sonic personnel and guests watched as the ceremonial ribbon cutting signaled the grand opening of the new Sonic drive-in restaurant.
Award-winning wines[Aug. 10, 2005]
Horizon Cellars, just south of Siler City, took home four medals in July at the Atlantic Seaboard Vinifera Wine Competition held in Leesburg, Va. All four of the winery’s inaugural wines took home a medal in the winery’s first competition.
New Duke Center for Living opens[Aug. 2, 2005]
The Duke Center for Living on Monday opened its newest location, the Duke Center for Living at Fearrington. The 20,000-square-foot fitness center offers many of the same features as the Durham location such as fitness programming tailored to clients' specific needs.
