Sonic grand opening is a wiener[Aug. 23, 2005] On Thursday evening the newest restaurant in Siler City was packed. People were driving up to the Sonic restaurant and placing their food orders over curbside speakers. Car hops delivered their orders to their parked vehicles. On Friday morning, Sonic personnel and guests watched as the ceremonial ribbon cutting signaled the grand opening of the new Sonic drive-in restaurant.
Award-winning wines[Aug. 10, 2005] Horizon Cellars, just south of Siler City, took home four medals in July at the Atlantic Seaboard Vinifera Wine Competition held in Leesburg, Va. All four of the winery’s inaugural wines took home a medal in the winery’s first competition.
New Duke Center for Living opens[Aug. 2, 2005] The Duke Center for Living on Monday opened its newest location, the Duke Center for Living at Fearrington. The 20,000-square-foot fitness center offers many of the same features as the Durham location such as fitness programming tailored to clients' specific needs.
Biolex Therapeutics Acquires LemnaGene S.A.[Jul. 28, 2005] Biolex Therapeutics, a venture capital-backed, clinical development-stage protein therapeutics company, today announced the acquisition of LemnaGene S.A., a privately-held, French start-up biotechnology company researching potential applications of the small, aquatic plant Lemna to produce recombinant proteins.
Chatham Marketplace finds a home in renovated mill[Apr. 2, 2005] Pittsboro, NC -- Chatham Marketplace, your local co-op grocery, currently owned by 600 area families, has signed a lease for 5,000 square feet of space in Chatham Mills. The co-op plans to open for business November 1, 2005. Chatham Mills is an 80,000-square-foot former textile mill located just north of Pittsboro’s traffic circle at 480 Hillsboro Street/U.S. 15-501N.

Weyerhaeuser sells Moncure plant[Mar. 18, 2005] Weyerhaeuser spokesmen recently announced the sale of the Moncure plywood mill to Wood Resources LLC, a Greenwich, Conn.,-based wood products company. The Moncure plant, a hardwood plywood mill with about 200 employees, manufactures products primarily associated with furniture production. The Moncure plant is capable of producing 115 million square feet of hardwood plywood per year. The local plant will be known as Moncure Plywood LLC.
Bluegreen Golf names Chapel Ridge contractor[Feb. 28, 2005] Fred Ward, project manager for Bluegreen Golf of Atlanta, Ga., announced the selection of NewCourse Golf of Carthage, N.C. to be the general contractor for golf course construction for their Chapel Ridge Golf Course project in Pittsboro, N.C. The golf course will be the centerpiece for an 800 unit housing community in Pittsboro. Work began in September 2004 with a scheduled completion date of July 2005.
Biolex Names CFO[Feb. 10, 2005] Pittsboro - Biolex, a developer and manufacturer of protein therapeutics, has hired a veteran finance executive to be its chief financial officer. Dale Sander comes to Biolex from Maxim Pharmaceuticals where he served as CFO and vice president of corporate development. He has more than 20 years of experience in the field.

Biolex And Medarex Sign Research Collaboration Agreement[Feb. 7, 2005] Pittsboro - Biolex, Inc., a privately held protein therapeutics company, today announced the signing of a new agreement with Medarex, Inc. , an antibody therapeutics company, to create a commercial line for an undisclosed Medarex monoclonal antibody using the Biolex LEX System™. Including this project, Biolex has a total of eleven partner proteins with five different top-tier partners to date, two of which have already advanced to GLP scale-up production.
