[Apr. 2, 2005] Pittsboro, NC -- Chatham Marketplace, your local co-op grocery, currently owned by 600 area families, has signed a lease for 5,000 square feet of space in Chatham Mills. The co-op plans to open for business November 1, 2005. Weyerhaeuser sells Moncure plantWeyerhaeuser sells Moncure plant
[Mar. 18, 2005] Weyerhaeuser spokesmen recently announced the sale of the Moncure plywood mill to Wood Resources LLC, a Greenwich, Conn.,-based wood products company. The Moncure plant, a hardwood plywood mill with about 200 employees, manufactures products primarily associated with furniture production. The Moncure plant is capable of producing 115 million square feet of hardwood plywood per year. The local plant will be known as Moncure Plywood LLC.

The Chatham County United Chamber of Commerce (CCUCC) and the Chatham County Economic Development Commission participated in shaping the agenda.

[Feb. 28, 2005] Fred Ward, project manager for Bluegreen Golf of Atlanta, Ga., announced the selection of NewCourse Golf of Carthage, N.C. to be the general contractor for golf course construction for their Chapel Ridge Golf Course project in Pittsboro, N.C. The golf course will be the centerpiece for an 800 unit housing community in Pittsboro. Work began in September 2004 with a scheduled completion date of July 2005.
 
Biolex Names CFOBiolex Names CFO
[Feb. 10, 2005] Pittsboro - Biolex, a developer and manufacturer of protein therapeutics, has hired a veteran finance executive to be its chief financial officer. Dale Sander comes to Biolex from Maxim Pharmaceuticals where he served as CFO and vice president of corporate development. He has more than 20 years of experience in the field.

[Feb. 7, 2005] Pittsboro - Biolex, Inc., a privately held protein therapeutics company, today announced the signing of a new agreement with Medarex, Inc. , an antibody therapeutics company, to create a commercial line for an undisclosed Medarex monoclonal antibody using the Biolex LEX System™. Including this project, Biolex has a total of eleven partner proteins with five different top-tier partners to date, two of which have already advanced to GLP scale-up production.
