Two of Chatham's own refine skills toward service
[Aug. 6, 2008] Chatham County attorney, Jennifer S. Andrews and Chatham County real estate broker, Chreatha Alston recently graduated from the NC Center for Women in Public Service’s (NCCWPS) 2008 Summer Institute. The Center is a joint initiative of the Women’s Forum of North Carolina and Peace College. NCCWPS is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that prepares women to seek and serve in elected and appointed office.
 
Uniboard Canada will bring 104 new jobs to Chatham County
[Aug. 6, 2008] Chatham County will soon welcome Uniboard Canada Inc. as a new industry that will create 104 new jobs and preserve 146 existing jobs in the Moncure area, according to a news release issued by Gov. Mike Easley. Uniboard Canada Inc. is an internationally known manufacturer of pressed wood products.

[Jul. 25, 2008] Cecil Webster and Chad Bolejack have known each other since they were boys. The two met Wayne Kelly when they all worked at Cecil’s family’s former dealership, Webster Chevrolet. When the Webster family sold their dealership, all three men went their separate ways. Chad went to work as a sales manager at Siler City Chevrolet. Wayne started working car sales through the Internet for other auto dealers in the area. Cecil got into the real estate business. By Gene Galin

Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q participating in 'A Taste of Chatham'
[Jul. 25, 2008] Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q announced that they will participate in the 15th annual capital campaign fundraiser, “A Taste of Chatham.” The event will take place on Sunday, August 3 from 4:00 pm until 7:00pm Governor’s Club. Proceeds from the event will be allocated to help pay the mortgage for the Western Chatham Senior Center in Siler City.
 
UNC Health Care to purchase Chatham Hospital
[Jul. 16, 2008] Representatives of the UNC Health Care System and Chatham Hospital have signed a letter of intent for UNC Health Care to purchase the 25-bed critical access facility in Siler City, N.C., for $11.3 million.
 
Carolina Brewery wins six championship of beer awards
[May 18, 2008] Carolina Brewery took home six Carolinas Championship of Beer Awards at the Hickory Hops Beer Festival in Hickory, NC on April 12th. Gold awards were presented to Alter Ego Altbier and Flagship IPA, silver awards to Sky Blue Golden Ale, and bronze awards to Copperline Amber Ale and To Hell ‘n’ Bock. The Alter Ego Albier was also awarded Second Place Best of Show for the entire competition.

[Jan. 29, 2008] Ron Newcomb has been named President & CEO of Resveratrol, Inc. The announcement was made by David Fussell, co-owner of Duplin Winery and member of the Board of Directors for Resveratrol, Inc. The appointment was made effective as of January 2.

Siler City merchants organize to improve business climate
[Sep. 5, 2007] The Siler City Retail Merchants Association (SCRMA) has come together to begin building the organization necessary to complete its mission of attracting business to the merchants of the town. The group has named Pat Dawson, proprietor of Paperbacks Plus, a bookstore in downtown Siler City, as its President, and begun taking steps to create the environment necessary for retail business to thrive and prosper.

Biolex files for $70 million IPOBiolex files for $70 million IPO
[Aug. 14, 2007] Biol ex Inc., a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company, has filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to raise up to $70 million in an initial public offering of stock. Biolex has applied for listing on Nasdaq under the symbol BLEX.

Carolina Brewery to open new location in PittsboroCarolina Brewery to open new location in Pittsboro
[Jul. 27, 2007] Chapel Hill’s award-winning Carolina Brewery will open a second location in Pittsboro in August at the intersection of Highway 15-501 South and Highway 64 Bypass. In addition to housing brewing operations and the restaurant, the new 9,000 square foot facility will feature an outdoor patio, private dining for parties, rehearsal dinners and events, as well as a conference room for meetings. Carolina Brewery & Grill Pittsboro will begin serving dinner Monday August 6th and expand its hours on August 20th to include lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch.
