Galin's community involvement is not a conflict of interest

The Chatham Coalition endorsement said this about Gene Galin, “Galin’s campaign raises another concern. His ownership and editorial control of the Chatham Journal, the Chatham Chatlist and the Chatham Online Bulletin Board, which often cover discussions of Chatham Schools, poses a conflict of interest for him as a candidate, and an even more serious conflict if he is elected to the School Board.”

Taking the fire out of fire ants

Cooperative Extension in Chatham County will offer a program on fire ant management on Wednesday, October 15, 2008. There is no charge for the program that begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Agriculture Building in downtown Pittsboro. Participants are required to call 919-542-8202 to pre-register for limited seating no later than October 13, 2008.

Chatham Social Services will be closed for move

A major move of employees will require Chatham County Social Services offices in Pittsboro to be closed to the public longer than originally reported for Friday, Oct. 3. The phone system also will be affected by the move, according to Sandy Coletta, director of Social Services.

N.C. Cooperative Extension to hold woody biomass workshop

With demand for fuel wood rising as the biomass energy market expands, North Carolina’s family woodland owners are well-placed to enhance their assets, reduce overhead, and maybe even turn a profit. To educate landowners, N.C. Cooperative Extension is holding free dinner programs across the state. Co-sponsors include the state’s Division of Forest Resources and the U.S. Forest Service.

4-H Clubs in Chatham County

Chatham County 4-H currently has three clubs and is looking to form new clubs each day! All it takes is five youth and one adult to start your own 4-H Club! The three clubs that are active are the Chatham County Charging Champions 4-H Livestock Club, the Rocky River Riders 4-H Horse Club, and the Red Wolves 4-H Homeschool Club.

Carnivore Preservation Trust sets date to rescue four tigers

Carnivore Preservation Trust (CPT) announced today that they are raising the funds necessary to ship the 4 tigers from the facility in Warrenton, Missouri to CPT on Friday, September 5th, 2008. Wesa-A-Geh-Ya closed following an incident this summer in which a tiger attack cost a 26-year old volunteer part of his leg.

This furry fun raising event will be held from 10 am to 2 pm on the campus of Central Carolina Community College in Pittsboro, NC.

Chatham Animal Rescue and Education, Inc. (C.A.R.E.) in conjunction with The Chatham County Concerned Bikers Association (CC-CBA) held its Fifth Annual Burrito Bash and Auction on Monday, August 11 at the General Store Café in Pittsboro. The evening included an excellent silent auction and an exciting live auction with Benjamin Farrell as auctioneer.
