Tenuta joins Wolfpack coaching staff

NC State head football coach Tom O’Brien has announced that Jon Tenuta has joined the Wolfpack staff and will serve as linebackers coach, replacing Andy McCollum, who took another job on Tuesday. Tenuta brings 29 years of experience as a coach and 16 as a defensive coordinator, most recently at Notre Dame.

Duke holds first spring practice

With an uncharacteristic mid-February start, the Duke football team opened spring drills on Sunday afternoon with a two-hour session in shorts and helmets at the Brooks Practice Facility. With Thaddeus Lewis lost to graduation and Sean Renfree sidelined while recovering from knee surgery, Duke is operating with two first-year quarterbacks in Sean Schroeder and January enrollee Brandon Connette. In addition to Connette, running back Josh Snead and tight end Cooper Helfet joined the Duke program for the spring semester.

Duke football season tickets go on sale

Highlighted by seven home games including dates with reigning national champion Alabama and chief rival North Carolina, Duke’s 2010 football season ticket packages are now available to the public. Duke’s 2010 home opponents include non-league foes Alabama, Army and Elon and ACC members Boston College, Miami, North Carolina and Virginia.

Four to join N.C. State football program for spring semester

Tom O’Brien and his staff will welcome four new players to the Wolfpack football program, two who originally signed with the Pack in February of 2009 and two transfers. All four have been admitted to school and will start classes this week.

Black Out Night in Greenville was missing the large bottle of white out needed to erase Pirate penalties, turnovers, and missed opportunities in the first half here in Greenville Thursday night in what might have been an upset victory for the host Pirates against the 22nd ranked Virginia Tech Hokies.

North Carolina defeats Duke, 19-6

North Carolina scored 13 second-half points to earn a 19-6 victory over Duke in ACC football action in front of 59,750 this evening at Kenan Stadium. Running back Ryan Houston led the Tar Heel offense with 37 carries for 164 yards.

Duke holds on to a win over Maryland, 17 - 13

Duke’s defense forced two Maryland turnovers late in the fourth quarter to preserve the Blue Devils’ 17-13 victory over the Terrapins on a rain-drenched Saturday afternoon in front of 24,650 fans at Wallace Wade Stadium. The win marks the first time since 1994 that Duke has recorded back-to-back ACC victories.

Maryland at Duke football game notes

Duke (3-3, 1-1 ACC) will host Maryland (2-5, 1-2 ACC) on Saturday, Oct. 24 with kickoff scheduled for 1:30 p.m. (ET) in Wallace Wade Stadium. The Blue Devils are coming off an open date and two weeks ago defeated N.C. State on the road, 49-28, for its first ACC win. The Terps lost at home, 20-9, against Virginia last weekend.
