UNC's Park and Rip off zone

I live in Chatham County and use the UNC Commuter Alternative Program (CAP). Earlier this spring a bunch of cars had their catalytic converters stolen at the Chatham Park & Ride lot. My truck's catalytic converter was almost completely cut off when someone apparently interrupted the thief and he fled.

One of my children is disabled and as a result has difficulty with the current method of education at his school. I am a teacher and so well versed in the laws that protect individuals with disabilities (not to mention having a child with a disability).

My life is falling apart and I need assistance from the community at large. After reading the recent “stolen dog” drama, I needed to put in my need for someone to “steal” my two bad dogs. They eat cats (which I need around to keep me sane) and chickens (I just like them and want a flock) and occasionally good friends (well one of them has bitten 5 of my good friends).

Here's the tick stick story: While our home was being built, I used the Chatham Chatlist to ask people how to deal with the ticks. Getting guinea hens was the number one piece of advice, but someone emailed me about making "tick sticks."

Is the PTA Thrift Shop being ripped off?

I was dropping off some things this weekend at the new PTA Thrift Shop in PBO, and was there before the store was open. So I went over to the drop box in the parking lot, and started unloading. There was an older woman sitting in a car near the drop box, and as I approached she said “I’ll take that.”

Swimming pool would serve Chatham residents

The idea of a pool in Pittsboro which could serve Chatham county is of great interest to me. It could benefit those who need exercise - children, adults, retirees, alike - and provide a way to cool off on hot summer days. The YMCA working with county government and maybe even the community college could be a great way to pool resources for a much needed improvement to our area. (Pardon the pun).

I just did this with a friend and recommend it to all. My friend and I told each other what we were thankful for. It got pretty philosophical at times (maybe it was the heat), but was a worthwhile exercise and helped put into perspective many community issues.

While I am sure that most Chatham people are as annoyed as I am with calls made with automatic dialers, bombardments with TV ads and signs on the corners, we must still be thankful that we still have our political process in tact in Chatham County, whereas several locations in the country in the last two presidential elections obviously did not.

Siler City has a new alternative to hamburgers and fries! I visited Mina Bean'a for lunch and loved it. I had the Mina Bean'a chef salad. It had lots of ham and chicken on a bed of mixed greens.

Violating the Pittsboro sign ordinance

I personally like the big flag signs for Powell Place on 15-501. I see them as a "sign" of an expanding economy north of Pittsboro on Hwy 15-501 at US 64 bypass, but I think they violate the Town's sign ordinance.

Too many kids at Northwood

With the only the old figures to go by I would urge you to find any alternative to sending your kids to Northwood. It is simply too crowded and they will not get what they need in a Precalc class of 32 or a Spanish class of 30+. It's not going to get any better.
