UPS honors North Carolina drivers for 25 years of safe driving

UPS announced 48 elite drivers from North Carolina are among 928 newly inducted worldwide into the Circle of Honor, an honorary organization for UPS drivers who have achieved 25 or more years of accident-free driving. Among the honorees is Charles Cook of Siler City.

As many of you know, my dad passed away three days after Christmas. Fortunately we were up in New York for my niece's wedding and I was able to be with him during his last moments. It really is a relief to know that he has shed his heavy, cumbersome, earthly body and his soul is now free to roam the heavens and watch over us all. Many of you had an opportunity to dance with him while he was staying with me last summer for about five weeks and I thank you all for making his stay here fun. He did win a jitterbug contest when he was in his early 20's and he was singing and trying to dance right up to the end.

UNC Kenan-Flagler assists 15 early-stage sustainable businesses

The Business Accelerator for Sustainable Entrepreneurship (BASE) at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School begins its second year assisting early-stage sustainable businesses. BASE will connect the entrepreneurs in 15 organizations to a range of sustainability resources—from expertise to capital—to accelerate their growth and impact.

We're working on a "Buy Chatham" discount card

I am still working on getting the new "Buy Chatham" discount card going. I have talked to 42 businesses county wide that are in agreement with a card that will work much like a VIC Card. The business would give you a 10% discount on your purchase when you show the card.

UNC study to develop business-recruitment strategy for Siler City

Pittsboro business owners worried about plenty counterfeits

Chris Pratt runs Virlie's Grill, a downtown restaurant in historic Pittsboro where the meatloaf sandwich, a Friday special, is served with small-town familiarity. Pratt, like a number of business owners on Hillsboro Street, has heard the whispers about the Pittsboro PLENTY. For now, he said, Virlie's is not ready to employ a new currency because of fears of counterfeiting.

Biolex Therapeutics commences phase 2B trial of Locteron in chronic Hepatitis C

On Monday, Biolex Therapeutics, Inc. announced the commencement of patient dosing in the SELECT-2 Phase 2b trial of its lead product candidate Locteron for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C. Locteron, controlled-release interferon alpha 2b, is designed to improve patient care by providing a more convenient once-every-two week dosing schedule and by reducing the side effects associated with pegylated interferons, the current standard of care, including flu-like symptoms.
