Cat's Cradle benefit concert to help Goathouse Refuge care for cats
[Jul. 23, 2009] Music fans and animal lovers won’t want to miss a very special concert August 21st at 8:30 pm at the Cat’s Cradle to benefit The Goathouse Refuge, a no-kill cat sanctuary in Pittsboro, North Carolina. Nationally acclaimed trio Tres Chicas will be joined onstage by southern rockers Luego and Gambling the Muse.

Mountain Aid concert to educate about mountain top removal
[May 13, 2009] Spending a summer weekend listening to music will help to ensure a safe school for hundreds of children. How? The Mountain Aid concert June 19-20, 2009 at Shakori Hills Farm in Chatham County, NC benefits Pennies of Promise, a grassroots campaign to construct a new building for Marsh Fork Elementary School in West Virginia.

Central Carolina Community College hosts Heart of Carolina Jazz concert

[Aug. 24, 2008] The Second Hoppin’ John Old-Time & Bluegrass Fiddlers’ Convention will take place at Shakori Hills on September 19 & 20, 2008. Fiddlers’ Conventions are and have been a unique part of North Carolina’s musical and cultural heritage for over a century. Hoppin’ John features contests for old-time, bluegrass and non-traditional stringbands, and individuals can perform in a variety of categories including fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, bass, folk song, dance and youth musicianship. Bynum Front Porch to host First Annual Casino Night fundraiser
[Aug. 22, 2008] Bynum Front Porch is holding its first annual Casino Night at Chatham Mills in Pittsboro on October 18. There will be blackjack, craps, poker, and roulette. Don’t worry, the gambling is legal and the money raised will help establish an annual scholarship for a Chatham County high school senior who plans on majoring in the arts.

Bluegrass Experience 36th Anniversary plus Tommy Edwards & friends Christmas CD release party

Bynum General Store Front Porch Music Series returns

A bunch of Bynum neighbors have banded together to re-open the Bynum General Store as a social gathering space, historic site,and venue for Friday night concerts once again! The Bynum General Store opened 71 years ago and was one of five stores in Bynum back when it was a lively, bustling cotton mill town. The mill closed in the 1970s, and community life began to change. Squirrel Nut Zippers to perform at Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival
[Apr. 19, 2007] From Thursday, April 19th through Sunday, April 22nd people from all over will gather at the festival grounds at Shakori Hills for the 5th Annual Spring Shakori Hills Grassroots Festival of Music and Dance. There will be 50 plus bands playing on four stages – two large outdoor stages, one intimate covered Cabaret Tent and one covered Dance Tent. This spring, Shakori Hills welcomes the Squirrel Nut Zippers, playing Friday evening at 8:15. By Sara Waters
