[Mar. 25, 2004] Carrboro - The Brown Mountain Lights take their name from those ghostly lights seen for centuries in Brown Mountain, N.C. But members of the band don't look like apparitions at all. They appear to be solid and down-to-earth, having lived on earth about four decades each. But they do glow when they talk about music. Based in Chatham County because Place lives there, members of the band also live in Durham and elsewhere in the state. The band's sound comes from a number of musical influences.
