Pittsboro, NC - The Second Hoppin’ John Old-Time & Bluegrass Fiddlers’ Convention will take place at Shakori Hills on September 19 & 20, 2008. Fiddlers’ Conventions are and have been a unique part of North Carolina’s musical and cultural heritage for over a century. Hoppin’ John features contests for old-time, bluegrass and non-traditional stringbands, and individuals can perform in a variety of categories including fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, bass, folk song, dance and youth musicianship.

The event gives every musician and dancer a chance to perform on stage, regardless of their age or level of experience.

Hoppin’John is a fundraising event for Shakori Hills, Inc., a non-profit, volunteer-run organization. Shakori Hills was founded with the intention of building community through arts and education. Its mission is to purchase and preserve the 72-acre turn of the century farmstead by hosting culturally diverse music, arts and educational programs and events. Shakori Hills is currently the home of the GrassRoots Festival of Music & Dance, the Hoppin’ John Fiddlers Convention and other art and music related events throughout the year.

Having a convention in the Piedmont area was a goal of musicians and music-lovers alike for years. In September of last year, the first Hoppin’ John took place at Shakori Hills, which highlighted and brought recognition to local talent and the unique, old-time style of the region.

We invite you to be a partner in the Second Annual Hoppin’ John Fiddler’s Convention, and assist us in our fundraising efforts. Sponsors will receive recognition with their logo and a link on our website, as well as a logo in the program given to everyone attending the event.

Thank you for your support! Please make checks payable to “Shakori Hills” with a memo notation of “Hoppin’ John Fiddler’s Convention,” and send to 1439 Henderson Tanyard Road, Pittsboro, North Carolina, 27312.
