Carrboro, NC - Three groups of popular area musicians will perform in a Cat's Cradle benefit for the Music Department of The Woods Charter School Foundation on Friday, March 14th at 8:00 P.M. Hobex and Great Big Gone will be joined by Lynn Blakey and Ecki Heinz.

Hobex earned its reputation as a sparkplug of the southern soul revival, performing over 1000 shows since the mid-90s. They have shared the stage frequently with friends The North Mississippi Allstars and MOFRO, as well as musical legends Al Kooper, Bernie Worrell (Talking Heads, P-Funk), George Porter Jr. (The Meters), and Fred Wesley (James Brown, The JBs). Consisting of Triangle music veterans, Great Big Gone hails from the NC Piedmont and brews up a twangy blend of electrified porch picking, finger licking, roots rocking, western swinging, honky-tonking Americana all garnished with a pinch of Cajun. Lynn Blakey, a voice and songwriter you know from local Americana folk divas, Tres Chicas, performs solo with her fiddle playing husband Ecki Heins who adds colors and mirroring emotions to her rich and textured songwriting. Rootsy and down to earth, expect beautiful melodies and harmonies. Lynn and Ecki sing and play together as only newlyweds can.

The Woods Charter School in Northern Chatham County is a grade 1 through 12 public school, founded by parents. It is tuition free, open to all students and fosters a vibrant love of learning and academic excellence. The school ranks sixth in NC for SAT scores and is currently awaiting the August completion of a new fully equipped building. Funds raised will be designated for the Music Department. For further information see the school's website.

Tickets are $10.00 and are available at catscradle.com. For more information call 919-260-0661 or email musical_roots

The benefit has been organized by Gerry Williams and Janet Place, parents of 3rd grader, Cam Williams. Janet is also the lead singer of Great Big Gone, one of the three bands performing.

The March 14th benefit is a kid- friendly performance with an early start-time of 8:00 PM and free admission for all kids under 12. The Cat's Cradle is smoke- free establishment and had been for a number of years.
