Chatham County, NC - This year marks the eleventh annual "A Taste of Chatham." The event will be held Sunday, November 13 from 4:00 until 7:00 in the upstairs clubhouse ballroom at the Governors Club. Indulge in culinary delights, dancing and a live auction. This is our last year at the Governors Club location, as next year it will be held at our wonderful new facility in Siler City.

We have just received a generous new addition to our already impressive list of items for the auction on Sunday: A beautifully framed 45" X 29" color picture of the entire court and arena showing a snap in time during the opening few minutes of the 2005 NCAA Championship game between Carolina and Illinois on April 4, 2005. The georgeous photograph, matted in Carolina Blue is signed by UNC Head Coach Roy Williams.

The gala features over 40 different food items prepared by the best area chefs, served buffet style and "all you can eat!" Treat yourself to shrimp scampi and linguini with clam sauce prepared by Ciao Bella Restaurant in Chapel Hill, chicken quesadillas from the General Store Café in Pittsboro, Charlean beef prepared on-site by Dr. John Dykers and much, much more! Desserts include Pig Pickin' cake from Bake and Take in Siler City, Southern Supreme Nutty Fruitcake, chocolate cake from Ava Rives catering in Siler City, sweet potato pie, coconut cake and pecan pie.

A new addition this year will be a wine tasting hosted by Horizon Cellars and Silk Hope Winery. Door prizes will be given away each hour of the event.

Sheriff Richard Webster will be this year's Master of Ceremonies. The Gregg Gelb Trio will provide the musical entertainment. The locally renowned band will perform familiar tunes from the big band era for your dancing and listening pleasure.

Auctioneer Michael Rogers will lead the live auction featuring treasures donated by local artisans and businesses. Additional prizes include a custom-made graphite fly rod, a night for two at the Rosemary House B&B, golf for four at The Preserve at Jordan Lake, dinner for two at the Fearrington House restaurant and golf for four at Governor Club. The auction also features artwork from local artists and artisans including Perry Harrison, Jonathan Manning, Clyde Jones, Mark Hewitt and Jeff Christian.

This year's proceeds will accomplish two goals. The Council will be raising funds for our Capital Campaign to complete the new senior center in Siler City, in addition to raising funds to support the Council on Aging's existing programs and services.

These programs are designed to facilitate independent living among Chatham County's older adults. They include: Home Delivered Meals, In-Home Aide Service, Congregate Meals, Minor Home Repairs, Caregivers Support & Respite, Information & Referral and Wellness Programming.

Top corporate sponsors for this year's event include: Progress Energy, Newland Carolinas, Central Electric Members Corporation, Cambridge Hills Assisted Living, Carolina Meadows, Galloway Ridge, Herald Sun, Ricky Spoon Builders, Smith's Premium Coffee & Water and SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation for Siler City.

Tickets are now on sale and are $40 per person. To get your tickets, call the Council on Aging at 542-4512. Tickets will also be sold at the door on the day of the event.
