Chatham county, NC - Classroom teachers of Chatham County are invited to host an artist-in-residence in their individual classrooms during the school year of 2008-09. The artist typically works with 2-4 classes of a grade level for a week, teaching a particular core curriculum unit, selected by the homeroom teacher, and involving students in a hands-on, interactive experience with the art form.

Chatham ARTS, the arts council for Chatham County, funds and co-funds several residencies each year, with help from the NC Arts Council, grants, businesses and personal donors. Previous residencies have included Judy Hogan teaching writing and poetry, Jef, the Mime, teaching science and math, Lola-Davis Jones, drama specialist, teaching NC History and writing in Moncure School (2),
Silk Hope School, and Siler City Elementary, respectively, and Martha Burdette, visual artist, teaching Greco-Roman history through mask making and 1920-30s America through photography at SAGE.

Teachers should contact Daryl Walker (dfwalker99@hotmail.com or 919-967-3716) by Dec. 12 if they wish to host an artist. For more
information, please see theResidency guide on the Chatham Arts website.
