Duke holds on to a win over Maryland, 17 - 13
Duke’s defense forced two Maryland turnovers late in the fourth quarter to preserve the Blue Devils’ 17-13 victory over the Terrapins on a rain-drenched Saturday afternoon in front of 24,650 fans at Wallace Wade Stadium. The win marks the first time since 1994 that Duke has recorded back-to-back ACC victories.

Maryland at Duke football game notes
Duke (3-3, 1-1 ACC) will host Maryland (2-5, 1-2 ACC) on Saturday, Oct. 24 with kickoff scheduled for 1:30 p.m. (ET) in Wallace Wade Stadium. The Blue Devils are coming off an open date and two weeks ago defeated N.C. State on the road, 49-28, for its first ACC win. The Terps lost at home, 20-9, against Virginia last weekend.

This past Saturday in Raleigh, senior quarterback Thaddeus Lewis turned in one of the finest offensive performances in Duke football history while leading the Blue Devils to a 49-28 victory over N.C. State. The Opa-Locka, Fla., product completed 40-of-50 throws for 459 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for an additional score.

The varsity football team rolled to a 53-8 Carolina 9 Conference win over Granville Central at Northwood High School on Homecoming Friday night. The Chargers amassed a 53-0 halftime lead, a lead that had grown from 33-0 after the first quarter.

The Northwood varsity football team improved to 6-0 Friday night with a come from behind 22-15 win over 3A Triton High School from Harnett County here at Northwood High School. The Chargers trailed 15-0 in the third quarter until Sam Griffin connected on a 73 yard touchdown pass to Shane Peppers to cut the lead to 15-8 following the two point conversion pass to Harold Baldwin.
NC State QB Russell Wilson headlines list of ACC Players of the Week
NC State sophomore quarterback Russell Wilson headlines a list of Atlantic Coast Conference Players of the Week after a career performance in a 38-31 comeback win against Pittsburgh, in which the quarterback threw four touchdown passes for the third consecutive game and helped the Wolfpack offense to three unanswered touchdowns late in the game to cap the comeback.
Chatham Charge U-16 team lost to the TUSA Fire U-16 team 1 - 4
The Charge was grossly outnumbered and played the game with nine players and no substitutes. The Fire played most of the game with ten on the field and rotated their 17 players in and out of the game until midway through the second half when one of the Charge players (sick with the flu) had to come out.

A.J. Farmer collected his second interception of the night with under 2 minutes remaining to seal a 19-14 victory for the Chargers at Providence Grove High School in Randolph County on Friday night September 18. Both teams entered the contest at 4-0.
Jordan Lake state recreation area reported visitation increase of 52 percent in 2009
Attendance at North Carolina’s state parks has jumped significantly during 2009, with a third of the state parks and state recreation areas reporting visitation up at least 20 percent, according to the N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation.
